Adam & Rachel

I had fun with this one. For a wedding gift, the clients said:

“We both like warm, earth colors like sages, forest greens, turquoise blues, creams and taupes. We’re definitely more traditional than modern in our taste, but we do enjoy fun, geometric shapes, as well as tile-like patterns from Spain or Portugal.”

I was off to find the look of those tiles. That led to discovering Moorish tile work. My research took me to the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain which became almost a blueprint for both the design and the colors. You can see the way the source material of the Nasrid art of the interiors, interlocking shapes from one, colors from another, brought me to the finished quilt.

At the couple’s request, stitched into the border, it reads:
“Night is descending slowly
And a breeze of roses is blowing.
Come, I’ll whisper you a song in secret,
A melody of love.”
