The inspiration for this one came from a Pendleton Blanket. For a country home, the client wanted something quietly elegant in a rustic sort of way. Research into the history of the Pendleton Mill led me to the Pacific Northwest and elements of design from the Nez Pierce, Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni nations.

I wanted to pay homage to their basketwork and textiles without copying any one piece directly. The answer was found in a traditional quilt pattern, Delectable Mountains. it took some tweaking to make the shapes fit– Delectable Mountains quilts don’t usually look like this one– the result was worth it.
